Alex MacKinnon Recognized with T4C’s True Service Humanitarian Award

ALEX MACKINNON RECOGNIZED WITH T4C’s TRUE SERVICE HUMANITARIAN AWARD

In 2016, Trucks for Change Network lost a very special friend and humanitarian, Ewing McMeekin after a courageous battle with cancer.  Ewing was a humanitarian in all respects, was passionate about helping our communities, and believed in the Trucks for Change Network mission.

To commemorate Ewing’s passion and dedication to others, and with the support of Ewing’s employer and T4C partner sponsor Kal Tire,  created the “True Service Humanitarian Bursary Award”.  This $500 bursary is presented annually to a trucking industry employee or family member, to help offset the costs of a humanitarian venture or charitable initiative.

The inaugural True Service award was presented at our Oct 11 AGM to Alex MacKinnon, Director of Sales for Contrans Flatbed.  On August 26, 2018, Alex completed a 20 KM swim across Lake Erie, raising $22,000 for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s research.  Alex, an elite distance swimmer and competitive water polo player, took 8 hours to swim from Sturgeon Point, NY to Crystal Beach, ON with the help of his dad, brother, and swim coach in the boat beside him.

We couldn’t think of a more fitting inaugural recipient of the True Service award.  Well done Alex!
